Government Benefit Payment Dates 2026: CCB, GST/HST Credit, CPP, OAS

By Andrew CarrothersPublished September 20269 min read
From September 27, 2026, the next federal dates are concrete. The Canada Disability Benefit pays on October 15. The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, which replaced the GST/HST credit in July, pays on October 5. The Canada Child Benefit pays on October 20. CPP and Old Age Security pay on October 28. There is no 2026 Canada Carbon Rebate date.
Government Benefit Payment Dates 2026: CCB, GST/HST Credit, CPP, OAS

This is a calendar, not a calculator. Amounts live on the government benefits guide. Why a child benefit changes in July, rather than on payday, is the CCB guide. If a date below is a statutory holiday in a later year, CRA's own rule is to pay on the business day before. Use the dated list for 2026, not a remembered "the 20th."

Key takeaways:
  • CPP and OAS share one 2026 calendar: the last business-style dates are October 28, November 26, and December 22.
  • January 5 and April 2, 2026 were still GST/HST credit payments, based on the 2024 return. July 3 and October 5 are Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit payments, based on the 2025 return.
  • Canada Child Benefit dates skip the exact 20th in June (the 19th), September (the 18th), and December (the 11th).
  • The Canada Disability Benefit is the third Thursday of the month. In 2026 that includes September 17, October 15, November 19, and December 17.
  • A benefit under CRA's minimum is not paid on the monthly or quarterly rhythm. It is rolled into one payment, usually in July.

When do CPP and OAS pay in 2026?

Service Canada pays CPP and OAS on the same dates. Someone who receives both should see two deposits, or one combined deposit, on that day, depending on the bank's posting. GIS is paid with OAS. The income tests that decide whether the OAS deposit is intact are OAS and GIS income stacking. The start-date choice that changes the CPP deposit later is CPP timing.

When do the Canada Child Benefit and the groceries benefit pay?

These are CRA benefits. The child benefit is monthly. The groceries benefit is quarterly. The January and April 2026 quarters were paid under the GST/HST credit name, from the 2024 return. July and October are the new benefit, from the 2025 return. Amounts and the rename are the Groceries and Essentials Benefit guide.

Table as of September 2026. CRA's child-benefit guide says the payment is generally on the 20th, and on the business day before when the 20th is a weekend or a federal holiday. If the monthly child benefit is under $20, CRA pays the whole July 2026 to June 2027 period as one amount on July 20, 2026 or later. The payment-dates page states the same rule as an annual total under $240. If a Groceries and Essentials Benefit quarter would be under $50, CRA pays the entire annual amount in July.

When does the Canada Disability Benefit pay?

Service Canada pays it on the third Thursday. The first month of eligibility was June 2025, and payments began in July 2025. Your first payment is the third Thursday of the month after approval, and it can include back payments. The eligibility rules and the $204.20 maximum are the Canada Disability Benefit guide.

Table as of September 2026, from the Canada.ca benefits calendar. If the yearly Canada Disability Benefit for July through the following June is $240 or less, which is $20 or less a month, Service Canada pays one lump sum on the next scheduled date instead of monthly payments.

Which other CRA dates are easy to mix up with these?

The Advanced Canada workers benefit has three 2026 dates: January 12, July 10, and October 9. This page does not quote a Canada Workers Benefit dollar amount. The advance is a portion of a credit you reconcile on the return. The Ontario Trillium Benefit, which bundles the Ontario energy and property tax credit, the Northern Ontario energy credit, and the Ontario sales tax credit, pays in 2026 on January 9, February 10, March 10, April 10, May 8, June 10, July 10, August 10, September 10, October 9, November 10, and December 10. Ontario says the 2026 payments from a 2025 return generally start in July and fall on the 10th, with those earlier dates belonging to the prior benefit year. If the annual Ontario amount is $500 or less, it is one payment in the first month, usually July. Over $500, you can wait for a single payment at the end of the benefit year. Provincial programs that are not on the federal calendar are provincial benefits.

The carbon rebate is not on this calendar:

Canada.ca lists the Canada Carbon Rebate as closed. There is no quarterly date in 2026. A missing deposit is not a delayed carbon payment. What ended, and who can still be paid for an old base year after filing late, is the carbon rebate article.

What if the money is not there on the morning of the date?

Direct deposit is the path CRA and Service Canada both push. A cheque is slower, and CRA's Groceries and Essentials Benefit page said wildfires had delayed a small number of benefit cheques while direct deposit continued on schedule. For the child benefit, CRA says to wait 5 business days after the payment date before calling 1-800-387-1193. For the groceries benefit, the guide says to wait 10 working days. Look in My Account first. The next expected date and the statement of account are there for the child benefit and the groceries benefit. My Service Canada Account is the pension side.

Priya receives the Canada Child Benefit and the Groceries and Essentials Benefit. She also started OAS. Her October groceries deposit is dated October 5. Her child benefit is dated October 20. Her OAS is dated October 28. Three dates, three programs, two logins. If the October 5 deposit includes a provincial supplement, it can be larger than the federal groceries figure alone. If she expected a carbon rebate in October, that program has no 2026 date. The amounts behind her deposits are the benefits guide, not this calendar.

Frequently asked questions

Are CPP and OAS always paid on the same day?

On the 2026 Canada.ca calendar, yes. Every CPP date listed above is also the OAS date, from January 28 through December 22. GIS rides with OAS. A CPP disability benefit uses the CPP dates as well. The Canada Child Benefit does not. It is a CRA payment with its own list.

Why was my January payment called GST/HST credit and my July payment called something else?

CRA replaced the GST/HST credit with the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit in July 2026. The January 5 and April 2 payments were the last two quarters under the old name, calculated from the 2024 return. July 3 and October 5 are the new benefit, from the 2025 return. The eligibility structure did not get a new application.

I get a small amount. Why did it all arrive in July?

CRA will not run a tiny payment every month or every quarter. A child benefit under $20 a month, which is under $240 for the year, is paid once, with the July payment. A groceries benefit under $50 a quarter is paid as the whole annual amount in July. The Canada Disability Benefit uses $20 a month, or $240 for the July-to-June period, as its lump-sum line.

Does a late tax return delay the July reset?

Yes. Child benefit and groceries payments from July 2026 to June 2027 are based on the 2025 return. If that return is assessed after July, the new amount waits for the assessment. Service Canada also tells Canada Disability Benefit clients to file by April 30 so the 2026-27 review does not interrupt payments. Filing is the schedule.

Are weekend dates already adjusted in the tables?

The 2026 lists above are the dates Canada.ca published, including June 19, September 18, and December 11 for the child benefit, and July 3 for the groceries benefit because July 5, 2026 was a Sunday. You do not need to subtract a day from a date that is already the business day. Next year's list will be a new page.

Where is the carbon rebate date?

There isn't one for 2026. The last quarterly Canada Carbon Rebate for individuals was the April 2025 payment. Someone who still has not filed a 2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024 return can be paid for that base year after the return is assessed. That is a catch-up, not a new quarter. Read what ended.
